Sauna Instructions

How to use the sauna

Before your session
If you have any reservations regarding sauna use, such as medical conditions, underlying health problems, the use of prescription drugs or pregnancy, it is essential that you consult your GP before making a booking.

Please remember to bring your swimwear, a towel and a drinking water bottle.

Checking-in
Please arrive at the downstairs bar inside The Taybank 5 minutes before your session to check-in. A member of The Taybank team will show you the way to the sauna!

Please note that there is no bar by the sauna, so if you would like to purchase any drinks to take with you, now is the best time!

Topping up the fire

The fire should be lit and the sauna almost up to temperature on arrival. You may need to top the fire up.

  • Open the Huum Sauna Stove door (front of the sauna by the glass door).

  • Use one or two logs from the wood store and pop into the back of the stove ensuring that air can still flow underneath the wood.

  • Close the stove door again.

Entering the sauna

  • Take care when walking around the sauna area, the ground can be slippy.

  • Remove your shoes and rinse your feet (there is a shower between the sauna & changing box) before heading inside.

  • Take a towel inside to sit on.

  • Ensure the sauna door is tightly closed.

Adding water

  • Use the ladle provided to pour a small amount of water onto the stove.

  • We have found that less water on the stones is more beneficial.

Sauna session

  • Take regular breaks from the sauna (every 10-15 minutes) and drink plenty of water – there is a water tap on the fence next to the river for refilling bottles.

  • You may wish to use the cold shower or plunge tank in between sessions, though if you have any health conditions or are on medication please check with your GP if it is safe to do so.

Leaving the sauna

  • Use the watering can to pour a small amount of water on the bench and clean with a towel.

  • Dry down the sauna floor with a clean towel.

  • Close the sauna door tightly.
