Our Story

Bar, restaurant and rooms in the heart of historic Dunkeld.

Situated on the banks of the beautiful River Tay with views of Thomas Telford’s famous arched bridge, The Taybank is a restaurant, gardens and music bar with a small collection of beautifully designed bedrooms and self-contained apartments.

Built on land reclaimed when Telford’s famous Dunkeld Bridge was built in 1809, the building was once a bank before becoming a temperance hotel. In more recent years, The Taybank became a popular live music bar. Under Dougie Maclean’s ownership in particular, the Taybank became a meeting place for locals and musicians from all over who would stop on their journeys north or south to gather in the downstairs bar and play.

In late 2019 Fraser Potter, a local with 10 years experience running his own events and catering company took over the Taybank. Together Fraser, General Manager Fran Rossi and their team transformed The Taybank into the popular hub it is today. An old car park was what is now Perthshire’s biggest and busiest beer garden with its own Garden Kitchen, bar, coffee & ice cream hut all on the banks of the glorious Tay. Inside you sample delicious, seasonal dishes in our beautiful upstairs restaurant and drinks in the famous music bar.

The Taybank is still a musical meeting place with live sessions in the downstairs bar throughout the week. We also host a number of events, from open-air cinema screenings and long table dinners in our gardens, to pop-up markets and music performances. You can read more about upcoming events here.

Our busy restaurant and garden kitchens source quality, local produce to create inventive dishes that follow the Scottish seasons. We’re on a mission to grow and source even more of our own produce and have recently taken on a walled garden in the grounds of Murthly Estate and are in our first year of growing produce.

Over the last two years Fraser and team have turned the once neglected upstairs spaces into thoughtfully designed, peaceful bedrooms before doing the same in two self-contained apartments located behind the hotel’s herb garden. Find out more about our rooms here.

“Couldn’t rate this place more highly, just the loveliest stay! Check-in and out times are super generous (2pm and 12pm respectively), service is excellent - everyone is so friendly without being over bearing, food was delicious and very reasonably priced (the langoustines in particular) and the hotel itself has so many amazing little spaces for a different times of the day whether that be a pub lunch, an intimate dinner, a beer by the water, etc. We’ll definitely be back!.”

Beautiful restaurant (love the decor), very friendly staff and the food was fantastic. We went for my birthday dinner and was made to feel very welcome - including a candle in my dessert! Would highly recommend and when we are back in the area we will return! Beautiful view of the Tay as well.
